What Level Am I?
We have broken up the classes into three levels - and they're different from last year, so take a look below. If you have questions, contact us at info@thebigbigevent.com. Here are descriptions of each level:
Intermediate
This level is for you if... You can transition well between six count, eight count, and Charleston. You know the swing out. You're starting to think less about steps and more about musicality and improvisation, and are looking to develop your own personal style.
This track will help you develop style, refine your technique and add moves to your repertoire, while introducing you to more sophisticated leading and following techniques.
Note to Jam Cellar students: This level is suitable "Building On Basics" grads.
Advanced
Pick this track if... You are an experienced dancer with a good swing out who often plays around with musicality and styling. You're already pretty darn good, but you want to keep progressing. These classes will offer you inspiration and ideas. They will help bring you to the next level by improving your technique, polishing your style, and feeding your creativity.
Masters
You might go for this level if... You can do all sorts of styles (balboa, 20's charleston, solo jazz & lindy hop) and can dance at many different tempos (molasses slow, screaming fast) and your swing out is like butter. Like butta! When you dance, your body becomes part of the music, using balance, momentum, and exceptional lead/follow skills. You may teach or perform on occasion. This level will push you to the limit, and is by audition only. Auditions will be held Friday night before the dance and Saturday before classes start. Stay tuned.
What if I'm a Beginner?
The demand for the intermediate and advanced levels was so great last year that we decided to expand those levels this year and not offer a beginner track. The best option for beginners is our Tuesday night series at Jam Cellar. The next one starts June 17th. It's just $60 for 6 weeks of lessons and dances.
During the Big Big Event weekend we'll also offer beginner classes before the Friday and Saturday evening dances 8-9pm. Those classes are free with admission to the dance.
What if I Just Want To Dance at Night?
That's fine. All of the dances will have at-door sales. We don't anticipate selling out the nights, but you should get there a little early just to be safe.
